During World War II, the US Navy developed a new and improved range of special and protective clothing, issued in three "N" systems. The N-1 system was designed for cold weather conditions and consisted of 21 pieces. In addition to the iconic "N-1 Deck Jacket", it also included the "N-1 Field Shoes". Viberg has set itself the task of creating an authentic version using some original models from its own archive.
Since the 1930s, Viberg has focused on quality and tradition. Each pair is sewn together by hand using a complex welt sewing process in which the welt and sole are connected to the upper leather. This makes the shoe extremely durable, while at the same time flexible and comfortable to wear. The last of the Viberg 2040 is based on an old work boot from the 1940s. The fit is semi-anatomical: the front part is wider to give the ball of the foot more room, while the heel is narrower to give the foot support. In addition, the toe box is slightly raised, creating a slight arch that gives the toes more room when working.
