Since the beginning of the Cold War, countless M-51 parkas, which were useless to the US Army and rarely worn, were sold off in Western Europe. Affordable and practical at the same time, the sturdy coats were very popular in the English fashion scene. In the 1960s, the working class aspired to dress in elegant wool suits, modeled on fine Italian fashion. Unfortunately, the expensive suits got dirty on the scooter rides that were part of every mod's basic equipment, and so the bulky parka was thrown over the thread and vehicle for protection. The "Parka Shell M-1951 (Model 220)" by TRMC was produced in 1951, the only year in which heavy satin was used instead of poplin.
