THE REAL McCOY'S Wabash Work Trousers are a tribute to the classic work trousers worn by steam locomotive crews in the early 1900s. Their lightweight, breathable fabric made them the ideal choice for the extreme conditions inside a steam locomotive - a companion that wouldn't let the worker down, even in the oppressive heat.
At the beginning of the 20th century, cotton, especially the sturdy calico fabric, experienced a rediscovery, especially among railroad workers. This period also saw the emergence of the discharge printing technique, in which dye is removed by oxidation to create striking patterns. Indigo dyeing was particularly popular, and the discharge print on indigo was given the name "Wabash."
The buttons on these trousers - the "Economy Riveted Buttons" - were widely used in the 1930s and represented bespoke quality. With their fine lines and the distinctive curvature of the stem, they reflect a craftsmanship that is rarely found today and emphasizes the special character of these trousers.
