Black version of the "M-51 Parka" from the Buzz Rickson x William Gibson collection.
The M-51 Parka from Buzz Rickson's is an updated version of the M-48 Parka, developed during World War II. To protect US forces from the cold, a layering system was developed so that the parka could be worn over regular clothing. While the original model was made of thick cotton sateen, Oxford cotton nylon was used from 1952 onwards, which also made the parka considerably lighter.
The idea to create an all-black collection originated from a fictional black MA-1 jacket by Buzz Rickson's, which the science fiction author designed for his protagonist in his book "Pattern Recognition." Buzz Rickson's brought the never-before-seen jacket to life, laying the foundation for the unique militaria collaboration "Type Black."
